End of A Chapter, Not the End of the Story

March 31, 2009
Though the Sunday Best Journey ended for me on Sunday, March 29, 2009, it will not keep from moving forward. I want to thank everyone for their support, encouragement and enthousiasm about my T.V. debut on BET's Season 2 of Sunday Best.
Sure, I wanted to get further in the process, but I am excited about what has happened. I met some outstanding people, connected with some GIANTS in the business and gained a boatload of exposure.
This puts everything at a whole new angle for me. I mean, I have been traveling and singing for over 20 years and BET 's Sunday Best has blown my whole game wide open. I am grateful for the opportunity and the noterieity. I will use it to advance GOD's Kingdom and my destiny. It's all good.
I still a need a new car, however. HA
Love Ya,
Me

Singers head to Atlanta for final rounds of the gospel singing competition
http://www.eurweb.com/story.cfm?id=51712
*The top twenty contestants have been chosen to represent season 2 of BET'S Gospel singing competition Sunday Best. Thousands were turned away from 3 cities -Chicago, Atlanta and DC--before judges narrowed the pool down to an elite few who will chase their dreams of stardom to the Sunday Best stage in Atlanta.
Now it gets real for the contestants who will face the discerning criticism of the Grammy judges (BeBe Winans and Erica and Tina Campbell of Mary Mary) and the American people. The top 5 contenders will sing for the chance to take their musical gifts to the masses with a national recording contract.
Based on reality television trends, it's anybody's game to "win." Last year's grand prize winner Crystal Aiken and the runner up Shari Addison both received recording deals. Making the top 5 wasn't so bad either for Jermaine Sellars who appears on BET's 106 & Gospel or Emily Gomez who is working on a solo album.
From the new stage to the prize package including a luxury vehicle (2009 Lincoln SKX) Sunday Best strikes me as a more polished production overall And considering the droves of good singers that did not make the cut, I anticipate an intense competition.
These finalists are not the average church singers or talent search contestants. Among them a multilingual, classically trained tenor, a multi-octave vocalist who has sung background for Kurt Carr, Carolyn Johnson White Howard University Gospel Choir Director Clifton Ross, III and the sweet, yet soulful voice of a bible-toting Senorita named Sharon L. Gomez.
Hosted by Kirk Franklin, Sunday Best airs at 9:00 p.m. (E/P) on Sundays.
The Sunday Best Season 2 Top 20 are:
Audrey Lewis - Chicago, Illinois
Camille Betton - Columbus, OH
Carolyn Johnson White - Valencia, CA
Cekoya Burch - Atlanta, GA
Clifton Ross III - Hyattsville, MD
Crystal Holland - University Park, IL
Dontavies Boatwright- Jacksonville, FL
Ian J. Knighton- Sacramento, CA
Jonathan Johnson - Louisville, KY
Jessica Ready - Saginaw, MI
John H. McClure, Jr - Owings Mil, MD
Kalind Haynes, Chicago, IL
Maurice Griffins- Chicago, IL
Latice Crawford- St Albans, NY
Peter Robinson- Bladensburg, MD
Sharon L. Gomez - Reislerstown, MD
Tammy Turner - Jessup, MD
Y'Anna Crawley - Mt. Rainier, MD
Zebulon Ellis - East Point, GZ
Jeff Spain - Atlanta, GA
Area Native to sing on 'Sunday Best'

February 20, 2009
Central Ohio native Camille Betton will compete to become the "next gospel superstar" on the BET reality show Sunday Best.
The American Idol-like program will begin its second season at 9 p.m. March 8.
The first season, in 2007, was won by Crystal Aikin.
The show, taped in Atlanta, is hosted by Kirk Franklin, with judges BeBe Winans plus Erica and Tina Campbell -- members of the gospel duo Mary Mary.

Sharing In Ministry at First Baptist Church Bracktown in Lexington, KY

December 17, 2007
What a weekend! Headed to Lexington, KY on Saturday, December 15, 2007. Heading south I figured we would be getting away from the snow pattern. As we kept traveling, it got worse and then better and then worse again. We saw numerous cars in the ditch and a couple of nasty accidents, but we finally made it SAFELY to our first destination (Lord, I gotta say thanks), First Baptist Church Bracktown, Lexington, KY., Reverend C.B. Akins, Pastor.
We had a splendid good time and the Lord showed up! I was the guest worship leader and Psalmist for the morning experience as well as for the Christmas Play that evening.
It did my heart good to see the children in service and recounting the sequence of events that led to the Savior's birth. There are some talented young'uns at FBB!!! It was a day of firsts in that I was the first soloist to guest in the morning worship experience at FBB and they completely wiped me out of cd product that we brought, which is also a first! Thanks Bracktown!!!!!! Mighty ups to Anthony Arnett for being point person in helping to create the opportunity, Pastor and Mrs. Akins for being accommodating and gracioius and the FBB family for being so welcoming and supportive!
God Bless!

October 16, 2007
A year of Firsts! First the cd is completed and then the opportunity to do a live dvd recording not more than three months after!!! What an opportunity.
Lamont Tillman (Soul Sessions) has partnered with the Long Street Studio to make it the official venue of Soul Sessions. To celebrate and launch this partnership, the fall installment of Soul Sessions will feature the vocal artistry of Camille Betton. Accompanied by a 3-piece band and 4 backing vocals, Camille's set is sure to saturate the atmosphere. It's like being outside on a warm, summer's evening in a light rain and not having an umbrella......yet, you don't mind getting wet!!!
Make plans to be there this Friday, October 19@8:00 pm. The address is 300 E. Long Street. Tickets are $10.00 at the door.
Let it rain!!
The Arrival:First Destination RELEASED!
-
September 6, 2007
It's official, The Arrival: First Destination, my debut cd has been completed and published!
It features 6-tracks that are sure to appease to all music lovers.
Starting the project is Prayze is Awaiting You (C.Betton, J.R. Edwards and Teddy Blair). I love this song. It has a lot of pockets and I love the one it ends on. I wrote this song in the late nineties and submitted to a major church when they were accepting songs for a recording. It didn't make the cut, but I am glad that I didn't throw it away, it has its place and J.R. Edwards and Teddy Blair came and put a little hot sauce on it and we served it right up. Cover Me (C. Betton, J.R. Edwards) is my 'God takes care of me' anthem. 'Anybody out there raise your hand?' is one of the lines that I sing on the cd and it's a call to arms for everybody to signify that he takes care of all his children. Thank you Jesus!!!!!
You're The One We Prayze (C. Betton) This is one of my favorite songs. I love the chant at the end 'we praise you, praise you....' It is a reminder to all that hear it, that everything is all about GOD!
Master has been Sent

August 13, 2007
Whew!!! I have to give up thanks and praise to the ONE who causes me to triumph. I sent off the 'package' in the wee, small hours of this morning to Discmakers, the replicators who will be handling my project.
A huge check-mark goes right next to my destiny list of 'record a cd project'. Thanks to all that helped it come to pass; I didn't have adequate space to thank EVERYONE but, I'll do it here. Thanks again to my parents, Ronald and Marie Betton, my siblings and nephews and niece. To all of the friends down through the years who gave support, encouragement, a meal or $, thank you. To all the singers and musicians who have ever worked with me, thank you for your time and talent. To singers and musicians on the current project, thank you for pouring out! To Samara Tillman, the outfit is banging, Angie Cooke, you gave me the 'M.A.C.', I appreciate it. To Dixon Media Group, thanks for putting it all together. To Jonathan Dunn and Faith Ministries, thanks for being my guinea pigs and for the support. JR, thanks for all you did, it means a lot. Thanks to the First Church of God Family, Bishop and Lady C for your spiritual leadership. GeGe, thanks for your help down through the years, and to Teddy Blair, thank you for your vocal arranging and musical craftmanship! Much love.
Please keep your eyes posted for The Arrival: First Destination to be available September 4, 2007.

TYE TRIBBETT AND GA Winter Break Retreat
-
March 5, 2007
Morgantown, WV was the place to be this past weekend, March 2-4, 2007. Tye Tribbett and GA hosted a sizzling weekend retreat smack dab in the middle of 'Mountain Mama' country. I was able to participate on the unsigned artist showcase and then again at the concert. What a treat! Tye Tribbett's musical ability and his band, Souncheck? OFF THE HOOK. They were picking up people and playing songs that I am sure they had never heard before and played them like they had rehearsed.
Judith Christie McAllister and Byron Cage also stopped through to just take us higher. The saturday meetings were informative as Sis. Judith taught us about the 6 stages of praise and why we do what we do.....
I have come away with a new perspective on my relationship with God, my worship lifestyle and some new family members to add to the photo album!
God Bless Tye Tribbett and GA!

Saturday, October 14th was a lovely day of hectic bliss. Ha! Two couples decided to culminate their decision to spend the rest of their lives together in lovely ceremonies. Both couples asked me to participate. I was honored, but it made a for a c-r-a-z-y day!!!
Much happiness to both couples: Ramone and Bernadette Robinson and Kenston and Passion Henderson.

September 24, 2006
BRENTNELL CHURCH WAS THE LOCATION OF AN EXPLOSIVE ENCOUNTER!
FOUR SOULS REPENTED AND WERE BAPTIZED ON SUNDAY, September 24, 2006. It was an amazing experience. I was glad to be a part of it with Jonathan Dunn and Faith Ministries. Anybody who was there knows what I'm talking about. Anybody who wasn't, well you missed it. The young people of Brentnell were 'line-dancing' around the sanctuary!!! That's right, line-dancing. It's a new day!
Soul Sessions.....for your soul!
-
September 23, 2006
Antonio Neal is one of the nicest guys you can meet. I was honored to open up for him at the 4th Soul Sessions held at the renovated Lincoln Theatre. It was an informal and cozy setting with Nex Level opening up the house with their 'jazzorship'. Next, a fall preview helped the ladies with wardrobe fresheners for the new season. (Guys, we'll catch you on the next one.)
Local songbird Andrea Taylor shared a song and poem entitled 'You Loved Me'. What a rich tone she has!
I presented two original songs entitled OH GIVE PRAISE and COVER ME with a two-piece accompianment and three back-ground singers.
It was a lovely night!
